So yesterday, I got an email from Southwest Airlines that I thought was rather interesting:

Hello Michael! Your flight on May 1, 2009, is currently scheduled to be on one of our Wi-Fi enabled aircraft!* That’s right…you’ll be able to check e-mail, surf the Internet, and stay connected to the world below via your personal laptop or other Wi-Fi enabled device! (As a reminder, devices that exclusively use a cellular signal won’t work with this service.) Don’t forget to power up at the gate before you board! Southwest is currently testing Wi-Fi on four of our planes. The service will be free of charge during this evaluation period; all that we ask is that you take a few minutes to tell us what you think! Your opinion will help shape the future of this exciting product. A link to a short survey will be available on the Southwest Airlines/Yahoo! Homepage once you log in inflight. Don’t forget that you can check in beginning 24 hours prior to scheduled departure.

And behold, this post is being made from the air!
Will be posted on the blog.
At least, anything that might be interesting.
So far, I got here with a major headache. Probably should have had some coffee before I left and maybe eaten a little something. I did finally eat lunch at 4:30 Birmingham time, which was only 2:30 here. Then I went and registered for the conference, took the “goodie bag” back up to my room, and went and bought a camera. I bought a Canon A590. It is nice and small, and I have a Canon at home that I like. It wasn’t a bad price either.
I am staying at the Venetian, which is a very nice Hotel and Casino. One of the nicest in Vegas as a matter of fact. It should be noted though, that when the lady at the check-in desk says “it is in the more secluded area of the hotel” that is code for “it is a REALLY long walk to get anywhere”. I think that would be the case anyway, but still..
The first year I was here I had a view of the Treasure Bay casino, and they have a pirate show they do a couple of times a day. that was a really nice view. My view this time:

Better luck next year?
I did make it to the Expo this evening. Basically, it is where you walk around and let salesmen (and women) try to sell you software products. It was a little crowded:
I didn’t really talk to anyone yet. Hard to hear with that many people all talking at once…
After the storms came through Sunday night / early Monday morning, we were without power. It seems that more than one tree decided to lay down and stop fighting with the wind.
The power was out from around 3 AM Monday morning, until around 3 PM Tuesday afternoon. The repair crews had a lot of work getting all the poles that broke replaced, as there were about 8 of them in our neighborhood that broke.
Now if Charter will get our cable service back so that we can have internet access at home, that would be wonderful. At that time, Melissa can post the pictures of the destruction…
I thought it might be worth noting for anyone that actually reads this Blog, that once a month the systems that support this site are taken down for maintenance. This usually occurs the 3rd Thursday of the month.
Yesterday was the 3rd Thursday of the month, so this site was down for a little while.
Now, if I can just get some down time of my own…
