Deniece or Denephew?

My baby sister is PREGNANT!  Between her cycle and her first ultrasound, it looks like my niece or nephew will arrive sometime in early November.  The ultrasound they did yesterday puts the baby at 8 weeks and 4 days.  They also got to see the heartbeat and little arm and leg buds.  Awww!  It’s amazing how much can be seen.

With Valerie’s permission, here is the bean:

Here it is…

This is the dress I was working on while the kiddos fell asleep.  I think I did pretty well without a pattern.  There are a couple of little things I would change the next time around though.  I learned a lot!

She wanted the camera in the last one.

Seriously?

I’ve been working all morning on a dress for little Gloria.  She and Daniel have been playing in the living room and I check on them in between each step.  (Pin the fabric.  Check on kids.  Sew a seam.  Check on kids.  Get out the seam ripper and sit on the couch and watch them.)  My last seam must have taken longer than I thought.  I excitedly went in to try out my creation on Gloria and found this:

I could see one of them asleep, but both?

We did have a thunderstorm wake everyone up about 5 this morning.  We ended up with the whole family in the same bed for about an hour.  No one got any more sleep, but we did get to snuggle under the lovely new quilt Grandma made for us!  I guess the early morning tuckered them out.

Daniel is up now, eating lunch with me.  Hopefully, Gloria will awaken soon so I can feed her and try that silly dress on her already.  Then maybe.  Just maybe.  I’ll get some grocery shopping done.  We seem to run out of everything all at once around here.

System Outages

I thought it might be worth noting for anyone that actually reads this Blog, that once a month the systems that support this site are taken down for maintenance.  This usually occurs the 3rd Thursday of the month.

Yesterday was the 3rd Thursday of the month, so this site was down for a little while.

Now, if I can just get some down time of my own…

Grunt, Struggle, and He’s Up!

My youngest little stinker is pulling up. Yes. Daniel has been squirming over and pulling up on pretty low things like laundry baskets, the hearth, cardboard boxes, etc. Tonight he pulled up on the couch. The little turkey is not even crawling on all fours, but he’s pulling up! Once he pulled up on the couch he decided to go to the laundry basket next to it, he just forgot to use his legs so he fell over. He primarily uses his arms for locomotion and climbing, so his legs just follow along. He’s going to be my climber.

MyStickyKeys

I have noticed recently that some of my keys are sticking-specifically the space bar. It’s driving me batty as it creates run on words. Michael wanted to know what I was spilling all over my keyboard. Now, I know I take my laptop all over the place, and I even have been known to eat in front of it, but I am pretty careful not to actually spill anything IN the keys. Perhaps I might type with sticky fingers, but that just makes the top of the keys messy and has never interferred with their function.
Then I sat down to nurse Daniel and figured it out. I often nurse him in front of the keyboard during the day. He has developed this habit of waiting for the let down and then coming off to feel it spray on his face (or in his ear) before getting down to business and actually eating. I can watch his face as he concentrates on the feeling of it trickling down. He seems to find it interesting. Unfortunately, sometimes the spray hits the keyboard instead of him. This would explain the sticking keys. So if you notice some run on words, I promise, I did press the spacebar, butitstuck and I’mblamingitonDaniel!

In response to our snow day…

We were excited about our snow day too!  I thought I would share a few pictures of our day.

It’s MY Chair

As I sit here on the couch with Daniel draped over my chest, I look over and realize that, yet again, Michael is siiting in my chair.  My chair being the one he bought just for me when I was seriously pregnant with Gloria and could not get comfortable in bed.  It’s the chair that I nursed her in every night and the chair that I used to help me put my feet up in when I was carrying Daniel.

For the past several weeks, Michael has occupied this chair during the evening time.  I think it might have started when he decided to settle down in it while holding his sleeping son and I was up doing laundry or something.  Now it seems to have become a habit.  I noticed that even when I walk Daniel to sleep, Michael is still in my chair.  It’s a good thing I like this couch so much.

Oh the SNOT

Both of the babies have runny noses.  It started yesterday, but I think today all I did was wipe noses, chase noses that were tired of being wiped, and pulled Gloria’s snotty hair off of her face.  For some reason, Daniel prefers to use my shirt as a handkerchief, so my shoulders are pretty crusty.  Thankfully, Gloria is in good spirits for the most part.  She didn’t sleep well last night, but she has been her normal sweet self today.  Daniel on the other hand just wants to be held.  He also wants to get down and play but can’t figure out how to be held by Mommy and do that at the same time.

We had the BEST dinner tonight.  The nearest Texas Roadhouse teamed up with Valley Elementary’s PTO for a fund raiser and cooked up some delicious ribs, hot dogs, potatoes,  , and rolls!  An adult meal with a generous half slab of ribs, roll, potatoes, and green beans (love their green beans!) for $10!  That is a really good deal.  They sent along bags of peanuts and their cinnamon butter as well.  Since I didn’t have to cook tonight, I took the opportunity to make some blueberry cobbler for dessert, but I am stuffed!

Right now, we are watching an episode of Knight Rider (remember that silly show from the 80′s?)  and waiting for the aforementioned cobbler to cool.  Gloria and Daniel are sitting on Michael’s lap HUGGING each other and giggling.  Yes.  Daniel HUGS.  When you first pick him up and put him to your shoulder, he hugs, wiggles, and then pats us on the back.

Our Snow Day

I’m sure you are wondering about the snowy picture of our house at the top of the page.  Well, it actually SNOWED here in Alabama, and in March no less!

We awoke Sunday morning to Thomas charging in to proclaim, “It’s SNOWING!!!!”  After racing around and getting everyone dressed somewhat appropriately, we rushed out to play in it.  Usually snow last a few hours here at most, but this stuff kept coming and was seriously sticking, so we found some heavier coats that we put on AFTER all the pictures were taken.  We took a walk in it, tasted it on our tongues, put it on our heads, tracked it in on the floor, and slid around a good bit.  Thomas went to play at a neighborhood friend’s house later and said he tried to make a snow angel, “but it turned out more like a snow butterfly.”  Needless to say, we had much fun playing in the cold and then coming in to warm up by our wood burning fireplace.

The first thing Thomas did was make a snowball and throw it at the camera man-er woman.

I took a LOT of pictures.  It was simply lovely.  I couldn’t imagine living with it around all the time though.
